"If we wish to get health-care costs under control, then we should at least be honest with the American people and admit that we are all paying a collective fortune largely for three reasons: (1) to keep functioning into their 60s those who drank, smoked, and ate too much and in a past era would have passed on at 60; (2) to give us all an extra three to five years of mobility and functionality after we reach 75; (3) to fit us up with IVs, feeding tubes, and respirators so that in our last six months of life we can die in a rest home or among machines and specialists in a hospital rather than in our own home with a few morphine tablets for pain and a bowl of soup with a straw on the nightstand".
Amateur hour trying to use the Chaos Theory to push through an ideological transformation at a vulnerable time in history....and hoping to ram it through before the public are wise to the negative consequences.
Too bad the media still don't get it. There is a serious economic contraction and by constantly criticizing the PM ...and talking down the economy, they feel they can get their beloved Liberals back in power. What they don't realize is that by making a bad situation worse than it needs to be, they can precipitate more job losses and even their own. What is needed is confidence and stability to get through the rough patch.
To simplify what happened in the economy ...In the late 90's the tech stocks got hammered, along came 9/11 , mortgage rates were reduced , money flowed into real estate, anybody with a pulse got a short term adjustable mortgage in the U.S.-rating agencies turned crap into AAA... interest rates rose, housing markets crashed, subprime mortgages blew up, credit default swaps( insurance illusions) blew up, and $31 trillion dollars evaporated from world stock markets.
PM Harper had done nothing to cause any of this but now has the difficult job of getting the country through the downturn with the least amount of damage. If the ankle biting pundits want to make the situation worse than necessary, then the public will probably stop buying from their advertisers,( they already have-retail sales are down) reducing revenues for media companies) thus causing more layoffs in the media.Unfortunately this is too complicated for a lot of them to grasp so they keep going over the cliff.....
"Indeed, many scientists believe that the highly politicized global warming scare is one of the greatest scams inflicted on the planet. They hold it responsible for enforced political restrictions on legitimate scientific inquiry and dissent and feel that a deliberate attempt has been made to silence prominent atmospheric and climate scientists who offer legitimate criticism."
