Rudy Giuliani................................................Weekly Standard

"Support for Giuliani boils down to two things. The first is determination to stop Hillary Clinton from becoming president. Polls show Giuliani is the most competitive candidate against Clinton in a general election. The mayor contrasts himself with Clinton and other Democrats at every opportunity. Michael DuHaime, Giuliani's campaign manager, has said nominating hizzoner would put states such as New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, California, Connecticut, Washington, and Oregon in play for Republicans for the first time in years.

Republicans respond to this argument. Last week's Washington Post/ABC News poll found that nearly half of the Republicans and Republican-leaning independents surveyed thought Giuliani is the candidate with the best chance of winning in 2008. A recent Gallup poll found that 74 percent of Republicans surveyed said Giuliani would be an acceptable GOP presidential nominee. Among self-described "born again or evangelical" Christian Republicans, 69 percent said Giuliani would be acceptable. Leaving a restaurant in Le Mars, Iowa, after Giuliani had spent an hour taking questions, I overheard one man enthusiastically say to another, "How'd you like to see him debate Hillary!"

Then there is the war. It is clearly the most important issue for Republicans today, and it is the issue that engages Giuliani the most. While he leaves considerable room for maneuver on Iraq policy, Giuliani sees the war in Iraq as part of a larger struggle against jihadism. It is a struggle he wants to lead, and one about which he has thought a great deal. Giuliani says he first became interested in Islamic terrorism in the mid-1970s, as an attorney in the Ford Justice Department. While he was mayor of New York, his police department worked on many counterterrorism investigations. Then came 9/11, and Giuliani's elevation in the American psyche to national hero."....

In the Eye of the Storm over Global Warming

"Dr. Gray views recent climate-change science as meaningless "mush," the product of simplistic computer models that crudely track a handful of factors and ignore the myriad others that influence the weather. Climate is not a contraption with a set number of easily manipulated variables, as you might find in a child's science construct. Those who try to reduce the climate to suit the rudiments of computer models, he believes, accomplish nothing but the debasing of science. The models, he has demonstrated time and again, are utter failures, incapable even of explaining the past........."

"It's now quite clear how the results of the surge will be dealt with by domestic opponents of the Iraq War: They're going to be ignored.

They're being ignored now. Virtually no media source or Democratic politician is willing to admit that the situation on the ground has changed dramatically over the past three months. Coalition efforts have undergone a remarkable reversal of fortune, a near-textbook example as to how an effective strategy can overcome what appear to be overwhelming drawbacks.

Anbar is close to being secured, thanks to the long-ridiculed strategy of recruiting local sheiks. A capsule history of war coverage could be put together from stories on this topic alone — beginning with sneers, moving on to "evidence" that it would never work, to the puzzled pieces of the past few months admitting that something was happening, and finally the recent stories expressing concern that the central government might be "offended" by the attention being paid former Sunni rebels. (Try to find another story in the legacy media worrying about the feelings of the Iraqi government.)........

What the media are concentrating on — and will continue to concentrate on, in defiance of sense, protest and logic, to the bitter end — are peripheral stories such as the Democrats' Senate pajama party, reassertions of the claim that the war has "helped" al-Qaida and the latest proclamation from the world's greatest fence-sitters."

"Let me see if I have this straight: Toronto police arrest three suspects in the murder of little Ephraim Brown and, lo and behold, it turns out one of them was arrested a couple of years ago in the shooting of a four-year-old. Predictably, the Mayor of Toronto and Ontario's Attorney-General blame the handgun used to commit the murder. More specifically, they blame target shooters and firearms collectors for allowing these thugs to break into their homes and steal their target pistols, so they can murder people with them......."

Licia Corbella- they must think the great unwashed have short memories ( they underfunded the military by about $20 billion)

"In 1993, when Jean Chretien became prime minister, he did a heinous and a most uncharacteristic thing -- he lived up to one of his pre-election promises and scrapped the Conservative government's contract to buy 50 Agusta-Westland EH-101 helicopters slated to replace our Labradors and Sea Kings in 1999.

The cancellation cost taxpayers more than $500 million in contract penalties.

Hundreds of hi-tech jobs were also lost because Canada, along with Britain and Italy, would have been one of the builders of the choppers.

Worse yet, in October 1998, six airmen were killed when their 32-year-old Labrador helicopter crashed near Quebec's Gaspe Peninsula.

One of them, Master Cpl. David Gaetz, kept a secret journal of the aircraft's mechanical problems to be opened only after his death, which he believed was highly likely owing to the state of the choppers in which he had to fly.

A Liberal complaining about our lack of helicopters is not unlike a child who kills his parents and cries about being an orphan. It is hypocrisy and it is absurd. "
