" The Canadian Taxpayers Federation, which has urged Toronto residents to phone City Hall to voice their discontent, will present councillors tomorrow with thousands of signatures urging them to vote down the new taxes.

"We're guardedly optimistic," said Kevin Gaudet, the federation's Ontario director. "You can fight City Hall."

Should Mayor David Miller win tomorrow's vote, Gaudet said opponents will take their fight to the province, which granted Toronto its new taxing powers and would likely be asked to collect the new levies on the city's behalf."
