Crime beat- Ditto......................via Jacksnewswatch.com

"Politicians tell us 50% of the guns come from the States. What about the other 50%? Would we feel better if our children were killed by Canadian guns? The fact of the matter is the gun might even be American, but the problem is the finger around the trigger is Canadian. ........

What we fail to understand is the last two tragedies have something in common. They involve teens.

The shooting did not take place outside a bank or financial institution, it was not a drunken bar room brawl that went bad. It took place in a school.

We are not just talking about crime any more, we are talking about a society that has started to rot because media, politicians and all the other institutions that should care don't have the guts to take responsibility and instead decide to play politics with the future of our children"

The first duty of a governent is to protect its citizens-not buck pass -and not coddle violent criminals

John Podhoretz- Immigration Bill, citizens and the internet

"But there's something else notable here - something that should gladden the hearts of libertarians and all those who are suspicious of big government.

The takedown of this bill is a template for future actions against major pieces of legislation. And like so many templates for action these days, it was made possible by the Internet. Here's how

This was a "comprehensive" bill, designed to thoroughly "take care" of a thorny problem. It sought to address every important issue relating to immigration - border and employer enforcement, guest workers, legalization and the means by which immigrants can become citizens.

The bill runs more than 400 pages. In its many sections are many innovations and many revisions of existing law. For almost any lay person outside of government, it might as well be written in Urdu - so indecipherable is the drafting language.........

The past 20 years have given us many examples of disastrous comprehensive legislation - most notoriously the 1996 Telecom bill, which began as an effort to bring the U.S. communications system into the digital era and ended as the most preposterous and corrupt series of giveaways and bribes in American history. Nobody knew what was in the bill even when it was signed.

That was a decade ago. Now consider what happened with the immigration bill. It was released within minutes of its completion - and it was quickly hacked to bits by paid experts, think tankers, lay thinkers, lawyers and logicians.

The bottom line was that the bill would be ineffective at best at doing what it promised to do - identifying and regularizing illegal immigrants already here - and would only accelerate the entry of illegals after its passage....".

Crime beat- another song and dance PR announcement on crime

They could have just as easily have made this announcement 3 years ago- what took so long in figuring out that there is a problem?

How many gang members in the GTA 5000? 10,000?...??

Banning handguns again?? They are already restricted. Bandits don't abide by laws- in case some people haven't noticed.

How many additional, experienced Prosecutors are dealing with this? Those announcements were already made long ago.

If violent offenders were given stricter sentences it would keep them off the streets longer- there is a revolving door operation going on - basically getting a slap on the wrists? Why keep arresting the same person over and over when they should already be cooling their heels?

Since the entertainment district is now the center of this initiative- what about the video games and music that contribute to the desensitizing process where a life becomes nothing to a triggerman ?

If they put as much effort into dealing with violent crime as the zeal that is put into parking enforcement, it would be a lot safer out there.

The Proceeds of Crime is only getting a fraction of the multi billion dollar activity going on. With at least $3 billion in activity-seizing 5% of this would be $150 million- compare this to the paltry $5 million announced.

http://www.usmarshals.gov/assets/assets.html

Deeds speak. We have heard these Pressers for years.Throw a few crumbs out and a few bandaids and then maybe the public will forget about the violence- just in time for an election. The only thing that counts is the track record. How many bandits out there and how many have been removed from the streets for a significant period of time ? Those figures are in the low single digits.

Fewer announcements, more action is needed to put a dent into the criminal activity taking place.Try cleaning up the graffiti on the Canada Post boxes and making sure the graffiti stays off. Then the good guys might begin to make some headway.

Mark Steyn- The Immigration Bill

"About five years or so back, I started making references in columns to "fine upstanding members of the Undocumented-American community." But from the lame Steyn joke of yesteryear to the reality of tomorrow is a mere hop and a skip. A few days ago, Harry Reid, the Senate majority leader, declared:

"This week we will vote on cloture and final passage of a comprehensive bill that will strengthen border security, bring the 12 million undocumented Americans out of the shadows, and keep our economy strong."

Talk about "a fast track to citizenship"! Never mind probationary visas, Z-visas and Green Cards, in the eyes of the Democrat steering "comprehensive immigration reform" through Congress these guys are already "undocumented Americans." Was it simply a slip of the tongue? Or did Senator Reid mean it?

If he did, the very concept of citizenship is dead, and the Senate might as well opt for really comprehensive immigration reform" and declare everyone on the planet a U.S. citizen with backdated Social Security entitlements"

Protecting the public from an attack while your hands are tied ? There are those that probably would just prefer they take notes after an attack .....

since they don't have the responsibility of trying to prevent one.Do you want to be protected from an attack or don't you? Terrorists don't walk around with neon signs announcing their presence

"The term I've used in the past is judicial terrorism," said Ben Soave, a recently retired RCMP chief superintendent, who argues that a debilitating damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don't malaise has begun to hamper Canadian investigations. "The fear factor kicks in," he explained in an interview. "The fear of being tied up in another public inquiry."

"Legal jihad is the one we use," said Jack Hooper, a top official who recently left the Canadian Security Intelligence Service. CSIS, he said, is struggling to comply with the judicial inquiries atop of processes already laden with overseers. While hindsight may always be 20/20, he cautions that those who investigate cases in real time find it "difficult to connect the dots when the whole page is black."

Lorrie Goldstein- good questions on school safety-why make decisions when you can pass the buck.

"If teachers see their employer won't back them on disciplinary issues and in fact, doesn't want to hear about them, then expecting them to report problems is absurd. Report them to whom, especially if, as Fusco noted, even contacting the police wasn't encouraged?

No school can prevent a random act of violence. But ignoring violence, if this is what happened, is unacceptable."

"Bandar lobbied No 10 to drop Saudi Bribes Inquiry"

"Another official said Bandar’s approach followed the SFO’s discovery of secret Swiss bank accounts that investigators believed were linked to the £43 billion deal.

“Bandar suggested to Powell he knew the SFO were looking at the Swiss accounts,” said the official. “If they didn’t stop it [the investigation], the Typhoon contract was going to be stopped and intelligence and diplomatic relations would be pulled.”
