Rush Limbaugh: the Drive by left

RUSH: I am reaching the boiling point about all of this "coarsening of the culture" garbage that the left is accusing people like me and Matt Drudge and Sean Hannity and others of committing on talk radio and so forth. Some of the most vile hatred is expressed in this country by the Drive-By Media at our president, at our military, by their blogs and by their talk show hosts. It is they who write books and do movies on assassinating our president. It is they who are constantly trying to undermine this country's cohesiveness. They are doing things to keep us constantly in tumult and chaos. Everything is doom and gloom. They are lying through their teeth about global warming. They are trying to set us up for tax increases to assuage our sin and guilt for "destroying the planet." If there's anybody out there that's coarsening the culture, and is making a mockery of modern day journalism by committing journalistic malpractice, the assaults that have occurred on George W. Bush -- both in books, in movies, in terms of his assassination -- and the never ending verbal drumbeat that has come ever since he was inaugurated, dwarfs anything that is taking place on the right.

By far, it is not even close. These people are Stalinists. They cannot stand an opposing point of view in their midst, and so they come up with policies and programs that are designed to discredit or silence people they don't want to hear. They hate debate because to them there is no debate. There is no alternative to their sick, perverse view of human nature and life, and in way too many cases, their sick, perverse view of this country. If you listen to the left in this country, our military is nothing but a bunch of torturers, rapists and murderers -- and they gleefully report this! If you listen to the left in this country, our president is human debris. He's a liar, he's a murderer, and all he wants is oil for himself and his buddies. Ditto Dick Cheney. Ditto Donald Rumsfeld. Ditto Condoleezza Rice. Look at the cartoons that they did of Condoleezza Rice which were despicable and racist and bigoted, and they are never called on it! Look at the way they botch their own jobs, getting things wrong. Now look at what NBC is doing by creating all these copycat mass murderers out there.

Michelle Malkin- Letters to Harry Reid

"I am writing this letter as an individual American expressing his right to speak up, even though I am an enlisted active duty Army soldier.
Your statement that the Iraq "war is lost" is irresponsible and is demoralizing to me, on of those “troops”. Your statement also gives hope to an enemy that cannot win in direct confrontations. That by randomly bombing civilians, spreading fear and chaos, it can cause those without strong will to leave the Iraqi people behind to a fate far worse than Saddam's torture chambers.

I disagree that this war is lost. This xenophobic insurgency will fail with the full support of the United States Federal Government. We are doing our jobs here, day in and day out, and we need you to do the same in Washington D.C.

Mr. Reid, sir, I ask you to show courage, the kind I see every day from my colleagues. Stand up and stand firm with me against terrorism, suicide bombings, and social mayhem by backing me up and providing a united front against such horrors.

Will you support me, a soldier in the Army, and stand up against evil?"

John Baird on the costs of Kyoto

"Baird told the committee that analysis from economists shows implementing the Kyoto Protocol would mean the following:

Gasoline will cost more than $1.60 a litre over the 2008-to-2012 period

275,000 Canadians working today will lose their jobs by 2009

Job loss will cause unemployment rates to rise 25 per cent by 2009

The decline of economic activity in the range of $51 billion"

Better to impove the environment through technology and other means than throwing hundreds of thousands out of work.

Montreal tea party? Some politicians think there is a bottomless pit when it comes to extracting funds from the public

"Rotrand then used the green argument suggesting that the rates will encourage use of mass transit and help the environment. Yet he should well know that the leading study done in this field was authored by Wendell Cox, former Chair of Policy and Planning for the American Mass Transit Association, and presented in Montreal last summer by the Montreal Economic Institute and demonstrated that no city has been able to reduce car use by more than 2% through any combination of rate hikes or mass transit growth"

Jack has some comments on Virginia Tech and gun control

the gun control debate

"We don't need more shooting deaths. But neither do we need knee-jerk reactions to catastrophic events. A cool-headed look at the data shows why — data like those compiled by economist John Lott, who found that in states where right-to-carry laws are enacted, multiple-victim firearm attacks fall by 60%.

It's not unusual for an American to defend himself or herself with a gun. According to at least one study, it happens successfully more than 2 million times a year."

A few comments:

Campus police don't have the expertise to investigate serious crimes such as murder and attempted murder. Same with smaller municipalities. They have to call in the experts from State/ Provincial police forces.

As for allowing students on campus to have guns- they have to be responsible and trained- however there is a lot of alcohol on campuses- so what would happen if a drunken student goes for his weapon? In Columbine, Dawson College and Virginia Tech, if there had been responsible trained people with weapons in the vicinity of the shooters, the carnage would probably have been lessened. It takes time for police to respond to a scene- 5- 10 minutes. Even one minute is an eternity when someone is on rapid fire.

As for picking out a nutbar prior to an incident - good luck! the Civil Rights crew will be right on top of you.

Blame the killer not the school

Mark Steyn has some thoughts on Passivity

At Dawson College in Montreal the first officers on the scene headed for the gunfire and didn't wait for the SWAT teams- probably saving lives

Do the names Staff Sgt Stenhouse and Cpl Robert Read ring a bell?

"This week's testimony, during which Zaccardelli insisted there was no coverup and that he never punished whistleblowers by transferring them to different jobs, was marked by audible gasps of incredulity from officers in the committee room"

An inquiry will take 2-3 years. In the meantime there are a number of senior officers that need to be replaced- the sooner the better.Too much politicization and bureaucratization has been going on- one just needs to read some of the reports to know that they were written by bureaucrats. The Commissioner acts as a Deputy Minister . They should report to Parliament instead of to the government. How many problems were caused by trying not to make the previous government look bad instead of dealing directly with wrongdoing wherever it was found? Some people were trying to be too cute by half because they had the power. In the meantime honest, dedicated , experienced top investigators were given the fast shuffle.

Seems like there needs to be a refresher course on integrity and ethics for the senior management not the investigators. What kind of signals went to the rank and file when senior investigators were stonewalled? Investigators are trained to find the truth. It takes years to achieve that level of expertise. What are Canadians to think when internal roadblocks are put up to throw senior investigators off the trail??

It took a lot of courage for these investigators to go public knowing full well the repercussions that landed on whistleblowers before them ( with no protection).Staff Sgt Stenhouse and Cpl Read know only too well what can happen when they spoke out after being stonewalled. The sooner the organization refocuses on crooks and not experienced investigators, the better off we all will be.

Trees and global warming- location , location, location

"As Steven Milloy, guru of junkscience.com explains, forests affect the climate in three ways. They are dark and therefore absorb sunlight, which warms the planet. They also absorb carbon dioxide, which the scientists on the Supreme Court have determined is a pollutant rather than the source of all plant and, therefore, animal life on earth. But they emit water vapor, which outranks carbon dioxide as the biggest greenhouse gas of all.

According to researchers at the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory, where you plant the trees makes all the difference. Based on their computer modeling, results of which appear in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (April 17), tropical forests exert a net cooling effect. But forests above 20 degrees north latitude — a line extending roughly from southern Mexico through Saharan Africa and central India, and the Chinese island of Hainan — have a net and not insignificant warming effect."
