Rush - Global Warming

I wonder if we could convince the schools to play that song after they screen that lying piece of propaganda, An Inconvenient Truth. All right, we have big news in the global warming update today. First from Brussels, Belgium: "The government of Belgium's French-speaking region of Wallonia, which has a population of about 4 million, has approved a tax on barbequing, local media reported. Experts said that between 50 and 100 grams of CO2, a so-called greenhouse gas, is emitted during barbequing. Beginning June 2007," that's this year, for those of you in Rio Linda, "residents of Wallonia will have to pay 20 euros for a grilling session. The local authorities plan to monitor compliance with the new tax legislation from helicopters..." They are going to have helicopters fly over people's backyards to see if they're barbecuing and whether they played the 20 euro tax! Black helicopters are going to be flying over people's backyards. They think a 20 euro tax is not going to limit barbecuing? It is going to raise money!.....

This comes on top of the already breathtaking pace today of construction in coal fired electric power plants in China -- at a clip of one new plant every week. Don't even think about asking about what kind of pollution control will be operating on those Chinese plants," because there won't be any. "A tax on poor people in the US so the Chinese can add more coal fired power plants. Now there's a bright idea...

Identity theft worse than originally reported

"More than two months after first disclosing that hackers accessed customers' financial data from its computers, discount retailer TJX Cos. has revealed that information from at least 45.7 million credit and debit cards was stolen over an 18-month period.

In a regulatory filing that gives the first detailed account of the breach initially disclosed in January, the owner of T.J. Maxx, Marshall's and other stores in North America and the United Kingdom also said another 455,000 customers who returned merchandise without receipts had their personal data stolen, including driver's license numbers."

Rush- Democrtic defeatists

"I think they're looking at "24" now just as a television show. They're judging it on the basis of a television show. I don't think people are watching "24" right now in the guise of understanding what could happen or what is possible in this country. I'm serious. I do think a lot of people in this country wanted to forget it because it's traumatic, and we don't show the pictures of it very often. You couple that with the way the Democrats and the Drive-Bys have been talking about the whole business. We don't belong in Iraq. It's now our fault, the Brits are saying, that the Iranians took these 15 hostages. It's always our fault! It's exactly what I told you Friday: We're the big guys. We don't have any excuse for doing what we do. All of the minorities out there, the smaller nations, they have every reason to do whatever they want. They can break the law. They can violate Geneva. They can do whatever they do because they're up against us. That's the liberal mind-set. Now, we had 19 people who flew themselves into buildings with our airplanes, and they didn't just cut off their arms, ladies and gentlemen.

They created a burning inferno, brought down two buildings, 220 stories of buildings, in a fireball that was thousands of degrees, and people have found a way to forget it. Now, I'm a little off on a tangent here, but the bottom line is that the Democrats are invested in the concept of obliterating 9/11 from as many memories as possible and convincing as many Americans as possible there's no need for a war on terror -- and in fact, the war on terror is causing Muslims to hate us, and then if there are any future attacks, it's going to be because of Bush. That's what's being set up here. That's why I don't think what the Democrats are engaging in is theatrics. I don't think that Dingy Harry or Nancy Pelosi or any of these people are engaged in theatrics at all. We're seeing them as they really are! They are telling us who they really are. They're not actors on a stage. These people are emboldened. They're feeling confident, all kinds of self-esteem. They're unabashed in showing us who they really are and what their objectives are, and we haven't even gotten to Nancy Pelosi and Syria."

Publc Accounts testimony -Feb 21,2007- prior to last week's bombshell by the 4 courageous RCMP whistleblowers

Mr. Borys Wrzesnewskyj: Mr. Gauvin, you made an admissionof people going around Mr. Gauvin, you made an admissionof people going around the controls that were put in place, and youactually stated, and I noted down, that “action was taken”.The action appears to have been, in Mr. Crupi's case—Mr. Crupi,St. Andrew's golf course, and Mr. Crupi, stepdaughter, niece—18months of paid leave. He's now on pension; he got bonus pay. So itappears that people who are going around the controls did not sufferany consequences, had full bonuses paid to them, and paid leaveunder suspension until their pensions kicked in. Then we end upwith the original whistle-blower, her supervisor, and Mr. Frizzell allremoved from their positions in what appear to be punitive ways.I look at this and I shake my head. Moneys have not been repaidinto the RCMP officers' pension fund. There hasn't been fullcompensation into the pension fund. There has been a great deal ofsuffering by a number of the individuals, who had the courage tostep forward when they saw top officials within the RCMP abuserank-and-file officers' pension funds. It appears that none of theseissues has been addressed. I think what we'd like to see is all thosefunds reinstated, and those individuals should have an opportunity tocome before the committee and be questioned in a respectful way, sothat hopefully we can clear the air here and once again look at theRCMP without doubt and with respect.●(

Mountie bashing disguised as concern for the "irregularities" in the RCMP pension fund.

Too bad these scribes have such short memories. They could have promoted the independence aspect of the RCMP Commisioner during the 13 year reign of their Liberal buddies. 13 years of the Sounds of Silence. But now that the Conservatives are in government, it's time to trot this out?Yes they should have been politically independent long ago. The Beaudoin case was Exhibit A.- but their Liberal pals were in charge.

Too much finesse and nuance, not enough putting the crooks out of commission during the Liberal reign.

J.R.Dunn- the Democrats go fishing(what happened to "can't we all just get along"?) .........American Thinker

"Last week, Democratic strategy for the rest of the Bush presidency was rendered transparent: the Dems intend to impeach George W. Bush by whatever means necessary.

The Democrats need to impeach Bush. It's not optional - it's something they have to do. Not simply because of who Bush is or anything he may have done, but as an act of vengeance for Bill Clinton. Clinton's impeachment was a blow to their amour propre, their pose of being morally superior to the opposition, one that has rankled ever since. In much the same way that a gang-banger feels compelled to erase an insult through violence, the Democrats have to take down the succeeding Republican president, no matter how bad it makes them look or what price they have to pay. Only then can they at last move on. And perhaps not even then."

Carbon offsets- an accident waiting for a place to happen?

"The environmental argument for carbon offsetting is that it makes more sense to cut emissions where it is cheapest and easiest to do so -- usually in developing countries. But concerns have been raised over the effectiveness of carbon offsetting as a way of tackling climate change.

For many campaigners, offsetting is flawed in principle since it gives the impression that people in rich countries need not change their lifestyles to halt global warming. A serious objection concerns the effectiveness of the voluntary offsetting market, whose lack of regulation or standards makes it far from clear whether offsets are actually having the desired effect.

The compliance market's governing framework, the Clean Development Mechanism, is considered overly bureaucratic, with emissions reductions outweighed by high transaction costs.

These limits were exposed last year when it was revealed that plans to offset emissions from the 2005 G8 summit backfired. The installation of energy-saving light bulbs and fuel-efficient stoves in properties in Cape Town, South Africa, left the local council £17,000 in debt because of the spiralling costs of auditors employed to monitor the project on behalf of the CDM. Why must the media attack our soldiers’ mission?

"How can it be right that the only drama yet screened about our troops in Iraq, who are risking everything to help to build a democracy, is one in which they are depicted as sadists and cowards? Why do the people who commission this sort of stuff seem to hate our country, and our values, so much that their first impulse is to see what they can do to blacken the reputation of those who fight in our name? And what does it say about the moral courage of our broadcasters that the broader context of the war our soldiers are fighting, the struggle against militant Islamism, just doesn’t get a look-in? It’s time that the whistle was blown on the broadcasters’ abuse of our soldiers’ mission. "

"I am not much for predicting the future, so when it comes to detailing the next moves of the jihadists I can’t tell you what they’re going to do – but I can tell you about the ultimate goal they’re working toward.

President Bush has said that they are hoping to establish an Islamic state from Spain to Indonesia. He could have added in the Americas, too, for their goal is global. This goal is important for many reasons, although a lot of analysts have dismissed it on the grounds that the goal is unattainable. Not too long ago Reuters ran a story about the jihadist plan to establish a caliphate. To show you how important they thought it was, they ran it as part of their “Oddly Enough” feature series, which usually contains stories about man-eating chickens and Jell-O wrestling."

Lebanon

"Christians are fleeing Lebanon to escape political and economic crises and signs that radical Islam is on the rise in the country.

In a poll to be published next month which was exclusively leaked to The Sunday Telegraph, nearly half of all Maronites, the largest Christian denomination in the country, said they were considering emigrating. Of these, more than 100,000 have submitted visa applications to foreign embassies. Their exodus could have a devastating effect on the country, robbing it of an influential minority which has acted as an important counter-balance to the forces of Islamic extremism.

About 60,000 Christians have already left since last summer’s war between Israel and Hezbollah. Many who remain fear that a violent showdown between rival Sunni and Shia factions is looming.

"If we love our children we have to tell them to get out," said Maria, a Christian mother of one from the northern city of Tripoli, who refused to give her surname for fear of reprisal. "When my daughter finished her high school I sent her to Europe, and I will follow her if I can."

"We get the sense the Saudis grin and kiss us on both cheeks when we walk into their palaces, then spit on the ground the moment we leave. The latest affront is over Iraq.

It turns out our "close ally" King Abdullah, in a speech before fellow Arabs, has condemned our presence there as "illegitimate." The harsh tone shocked U.S. officials who were under the impression the king was cooperating with our efforts"
