UNSCAM-more indictments to come?

"In addition to the federal probe, there is also an ongoing investigation by Manhattan district attorney Robert Morgenthau and a third by the N.Y. State attorney-general Andrew Cuomo. Any of those could vastly complicate matters for Sevan.

The veteran U.N. official made it quite clear that his personal finances would preclude a long legal fight.

Last year, the United Nations suspended any legal assistance to the former oil-for-food director.

The only income Sevan claims is his U.N. pension, which is valued at approximately $75,000 annually.

As such, it is widely believed that the U.S. attorney's actions are a pressure tactic to get Sevan to cooperate with the federal investigation.

"Many people knew what was going on," Sevan said several weeks ago."
