Kyoto........ The government critics over softwood lumber and Kyoto seem to rejoice over their America bashing but then again their own jobs aren't

on the line-Those in the forestry and manufacturing industries are.We have already lost jobs elsewhere because of the rising loonie. Too bad some can shoot from the lip without having actually to worry about others jobs- the government can't afford that luxury. As for trading carbon credits, we couldn't keep track of the Liberal government finances at home let alone figure out carbon credit shell games overseas.Who's going to do those audits and at what cost?? Common sense should prevail while at the same time using better technology to cut down on pollution.

But equating adherence to Kyoto with making real progress on reducing man-made emissions is a mistake. The U.S. is not a signatory to Kyoto. Canada is. Yet, since 1990, the U.S. -- despite growing faster economically than Canada -- has increased its emissions by only 15%. In Canada, emissions have increased by 24%. Similarly, the U.S. has become a leader in the field of emerging cleaner technologies, while so far Canada has largely missed out on these opportunities.
