Maurice Strong loses job as UN N. Korea envoy

"Canadian businessman Maurice Strong has lost his job as the top UN envoy for North Korea, the United Nations said Monday.

The decision not to renew Strong's contract follows criticism of the Canadian for giving a job to his stepdaughter and questions about his ties to a South Korean businessman accused of wrongdoing in the UN oil-for-food scandal.

Deputy spokeswoman Marie Okabe said in response to a question that Strong's contract expired last week "and it has not been renewed'' but gave no reason."
