Behind the mask on 7/7

Thanks for your service to Canada - R.I.P.

"About 500 police officers and emergency personnel from across Canada marched in a procession to the funeral yesterday of an Alberta Mountie killed on duty.

Const. Jose Agostinho, 45, died Monday when his RCMP cruiser was rammed by a transport truck on Hwy. 2 about 50 km south of Edmonton."

Michael Yon posting from Iraq on the distribution of medical books

Everyone who gets involved in this effort, from medical students to publishers, to the soldiers loading the books, all seem to get distracted by the desire to make a difference, and energized by the fact that they are. It’s doubtful that most could even imagine the impact of their contributions in Iraq.

Since the campaign was launched, there have been four separate iterations of medical personnel to maintain it, at considerable expense to their non-duty time, and risking considerable exposure to danger. From this vantage in Iraq, seeing so many Americans, Europeans, and others, pulling together to help Iraqis whom they have never met, is fulfilling, heartening, and provides a welcome respite from writing and thinking about war.

Anyone, anywhere in the world, who has English-language medical, dental, veterinary or nursing texts or journals and would like to send them to Iraq, should contact David Gifford, MD:dgifford@hot.rr.com, for suggestions about how to do so.

Even to the end

"The slight and diffident Hopkins rose to speak with words that are as vivid and memorable today in the light of the atrocities wreaked upon London. This is what he said: "I suppose you wish to know what I am going to say to President Roosevelt on my return.

"Well, I am going to quote to you one verse from the Book of Ruth: 'Whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge; thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God.' " Hopkins paused and then very quietly said, "Even to the end."

Wake up America...........

"Freedom-loving Americans have just been reminded that the world is plagued by an evil that can neither be appeased nor accommodated. It can only be defeated by strong leadership and a will to win.

We must never forget 9-11. We lost more Americans on that day than when we were attacked at Pearl Harbor. The fanatical group of global terrorists wants to kill as many Christians and Jews as possible."

Terrorist war against western civilization..........

"Israeli Vice Premier Ehud Olmert said Sunday that "the terrorists operating in London last week were doing it as part of a comprehensive terrorist war against the Western civilization similar to what they've done in America, similar to what they've done in Spain."

Cabinet Minister Matan Vilnai said democracies including Israel are being targeted by terror. "We are part of it and the whole free world is now part of it," he said"

If anybody thinks that Israel may be the problem should do a bit more research.........
Perhaps some would like to pin the blame on the Thai Bhuddists instead of where it rightly belongs

Why would it be necessary to pay this?

People can make up whatever excuses they want or deny the reality but.............

"It makes no difference," he said. "They hate everything we stand for ... and the fact that we let men and women choose their own lives."

John O'Sullivan............

"London's transport and emergency services had planned for such an emergency with great thoroughness. They held a mock-emergency training session only a month ago. And they responded to the actual emergency not only with courage and efficiency but also with swift and intelligent improvisation — using nearby buses to deliver the wounded to hospital rather than waiting for ambulances, and closing down the mobile phone network that had triggered bombs last year in Madrid.

Ordinary Londoners reacted with stoicism and self-discipline, following the instructions of the emergency services, helping each other out of the wreckage, walking dutifully home through London, and even cracking the kind of ironic jokes that such occasions bring forth.

HELEN Szamuely, a well-known Brit ish blogger, praised the courage and competence of the authorities and then added wryly: "I have no doubt tomorrow London Transport will carry on as before with stoppages, faulty trains, non-working points and signals."

Plan B on Terror

Bob MacDonald

" What's worse is that Canada, with its weak immigration and refugee laws, has been one of the easiest countries in the world for terrorists to enter. Our own CSIS federal security agency reported there are about 50 terrorist and terrorist-supporting cells in Canada, including al-Qaida."

John Crosbie- health care

"Why do we have such a dearth of technology, shortage of physicians and such long waits for care? Experts, such as Dr. David Gratzer, point out this is the result of medicare's command and control structure.

For 30 years, politicians like Martin attempted to micro-manage Canadian health care. An example is the restrictions put in place some years ago with respect to the supply of doctors, centralizing decision-making and putting in place a myriad of rules and regulations. "
