Al Qaeda's British recruits

"AL-QAEDA is secretly recruiting affluent, middle-class Muslims in British universities and colleges to carry out terrorist attacks in this country, leaked Whitehall documents reveal.

A network of “extremist recruiters” is circulating on campuses targeting people with “technical and professional qualifications”, particularly engineering and IT degrees."

A May 17 statement by German Interior Minister Otto Schily cited Islamist extremism and terrorism as the "greatest threat" to national security. Schily cited the 2004 "Protection of the Constitution Report" as saying the number of "members and followers" of Islamist organizations in Germany was 31,800, with the number of "potentially extremist foreigners" in Germany at approximately 57,500. The statement did not allude to the classification guidelines that produced those numbers."

"Fantino warns that terrorism does not necessarily come from offshore, and raised concerns about Canada becoming a haven for terrorists and their sympathizers.

The country has an obligation to the rest of the world to root them out, he said.

The Canadian Security Intelligence Service says at least 50 terrorist groups are now operating in Canada, including Al Qaeda.

"It isn't just about the bombs going off in Canada ... it's also about terrorists finding Canada a lucrative place and a safe place to come to plan, to strategize and to raise funds and to sympathize with those who are actually carrying out those heinous crimes," he said.

Too bad at the federal level time wasn't of the essence.For instance,how many have had advanced training since this AG's report came out? How many co-ordinated large scale drills have been carried out with first responders? Better to be safe than sorry and get on with smoothening out the kinks in the system..


In emergency preparedness, funds were not allocated based on an assessment of risks. Equipment purchased for first responders in different cities was not required to be interoperable, thus missing an opportunity to create a national pool of compatible equipment. Training for first responders is progressing very slowly—fewer than 200 of the needed 6,000 intermediate-level first responders have been trained.

The answer to the crime of London will come in Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and other countries where Islamist extremism perverts the Muslim mind, and it will come through force no less than reason. There is no other path. "
