Mark Steyn has a definite flair for cutting to the chase

"If you're stopped in the street by a CBC reporter and you tell him, "Oh, everyone does it. That's politics. What's the big deal?", you're not being worldly and cynical, you're being played like a violin by the Liberal party fiddlers. In the diseased Dominion, our rulers are so cynical they're cynical about cynicism: they understand that once a political culture reaches a certain point of decay a large segment of the population is content to take refuge in the pose of cynicism."

When it comes to integrity in Canada, it looks like it's in a free fall-maybe if Canadians believe politicians can be fast and loose, ............

.......they can follow their example.

Police allege the accused used her position to obtain personal information from unsuspecting coworkers and then used this information, without their knowledge, to facilitate a group sponsorship of her family members to Canada. The RCMP initiated this investigation in October 2004 as a result of a request from Citizenship and Immigration Canada. Immigration officials became suspicious of this matter after two separate, similar sponsorship applications were received. The second application identified sponsors with names and addresses that were variations of the first application. As a result, the first sponsorship application was placed on hold and is currently under review.

Instapundit.com points to a Senate report on UNSCAM

Interesting bit from footnote 5 of the Senate Report: "Terrorist individuals and entities who received allocations include the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Abu Abbas, and the Mujahedeen-e Khalq." (Via Power Line, which has much more).

Discrepancy in polls-to reflect opinion or manipulate opinion?-polling will lose credibility if they aren't more accurate and the methodologies given

"Take two recent national polls -- one by the Strategic Counsel and the other by Decima Research Inc. -- which came out the same day.

Both polling firms were in the field polling 1,000 Canadians during the first week of May. They had the same margin of error, accurate to within 3.1 percentage points, 19 times out of 20. But they had completely different results.

Decima had the Liberals with a commanding lead of 37%, suggesting the Grits were beginning to open up a wide margin over their Conservative opponents, who had fallen to 28%. That's an impressive nine-point spread.

The Strategic Counsel, though, had the Conservatives in the lead with 31% support and the Liberals trailing at 27%.

How could they be so drastically different?
