Buck passing 101

The announcement today on extra? officers was a rehash of committments from 2 years ago but it looks good which is all that matters in politics.Fifty extra officers in 6 months for Toronto?-about 14 extra officers/shift in a city of 3,000,000.The problem was brewing years ago and everybody looked the other way- look at all the graffiti in the city which makes it look seedy.Symptoms of gangs.Apparently nobody noticed. That didn't just occur in the past 2 weeks.

Hiring novices while more experienced officers are retiring in the next couple of years will leave a brain drain.Just another item left on the backburner.While hiring 150 officers some time in the future is a start,it's also important to make accomodations to retain a number of experienced investigators or else the ratio of newbies to experienced officers will leave Toronto with too many inexperienced officers. The soft sentences for weapons offences has to be addressed.The chickens have come home to roost so what are they going to do to get the guns and gunmen off the streets today? Especially when some think nothing of taking shots at the police who are trying to protect the community
